Taekwondo: First medals in Male's competition!

European Universities Championship in Taekwondo started with competition in Recognized and Freestyle Poomsae. On the tatami at “Trešnjevka” Sports Hall boys all around Europe showed their technical and acrobatic skills in both categories.

 

In Recognized Poomsae first place won Henry Chiu from Loughborough University, the second was Habib Okcu from Gazi University, and third was Adria Wassmuth from German Sport University Cologne and Bruno Fildago student at Plaget Institute of Almada. After semifinals leader was Okcu, he had for 0,13 higher score than Chiu. But, Poomsae for final was more suited to the competitor from Great Britain who won his first title on European Universities Championship in Taekwondo.

 

After final, Chiu told us that the gold medal exceeded its expectations: „It's good pleasure winning this competition. I worked hard. Last few days I tried to clematis to the weather, it was difficult. Thankfully, my coach master Park helped me push through and trained hard for me. Realistically I expected to get a medal, but not gold. I didn't know who is competing. I would be happy that I got just medal, but the gold medal is better “.

 

The competitors in Freestyle Poomsae showed impressive punches and acrobatic moves. The first favourite for winning this competition was gold medalist from European Taekwondo Championship Mustafa Oguzhan Ornek, a student from Gazi University. Oguzhan justify the role of favourite and brought another medal for University from Ankara. In second place was Borna Pečko from the University of Zagreb, while the third-ranked were Bruno Fidalgo from the Plaget Institute of Almada and Lucas Benjamin Stein student at the University of Hannover.
