Taekwondo Day2 – First medals awarded to Kyorugi competitors

The second day of the European Universities Championship in Taekwondo was reserved for competition in Kyorugi.

 

Men's competed in categories under 58kg, 68kg, 80kg and above 80kg, and everyone present at ”Trešnjevka“ Hall could enjoy in attractive actions. As we approached the endings of today's competition, the fightings became considerably more exciting, and the athletes became more nervous. 

 

In category above 80kg new European Universities Champion became Chang Yong Yoon from the University of Barcelona, and in the second place ended up  Luka Mavračić from the University of Zagreb. On his way to the final Yong Yon first won against Loemba Hayron, and in semifinals, he triumphed against Bouazza El Hainouni from University of Applied Sciences Dusseldorf who finished third. On the other side, in the first round, Mavračić won against a representative from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Borja Gamir Rosello, and in semifinal, he was better than Tomas Guell Barnils student at Ramon Llull University who also got the bronze medal. 

 

After the final match, Chang Yong Yoon didn't hide happiness because of winning a gold medal: „This was a crazy match. I saw the match he was working against my colleague from Barcelona, and I prepared myself. It was as we expected, complicated and difficult. In the end, I succeeded with the help of my colleagues and my trainer“. 

 

Dmytro Govorun from Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture became Champion in the category under 68kg. In the final match, he won against Renato Viana from the University of Porto. On third places finished Michael Tipecska from the Technical University of Munich and Daniel Anton Houben from the Technical University of Berlin.

 

Title in the category under 80kg won Denys Voronovskyi from Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University. In semifinal, he was better than Ivan Vrgoč from the University of Zagreb, and in the final, he triumphed against Julio Ferreira with score 18:9. Bronze medals ended around the neck of Ivan Vrgoč and Philipp Trzeciak from the University of Luneburg. 

 

A gold winner from category under 80kg Denys Voronovskyi told us that competition was greatly organized, and that he is thankful for the support he had during the competition: „I'm very pleased with the tournament that is very well organized. I was surprised by very strong competition and it matters how it would end, but everything turned out great“. 

 

The gold medal went also to Adriene Bajrami from the Mediterranean University of Albania. Bajrami was very dominant during the entire tournament, and in the semifinals, he had the hardest match against Liam Bette from National Institute for Applied Sciences Lyon. After a very exciting ending Bajrami won with result 30:25. In final athlete from Albania defeated Allen Alarcon Jimenez from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The bronze medals were won by two students from National Institute for Applied Sciences Lyon, Liam Bette and Sebastien Alesio-Capolini. 

The first day of competition in Kyorugi is over, and new exciting matches, attractive moves and happy moments expect us on Saturday when we will see competitors in categories under 54kg, 63kg, 74kg and 87kg.
