Kickboxing Day2: Gold fights in female competition!

On the second day of the European University championship in combat sports, semi-final fights took place in the ring and the tatami, and the first medals were won by the tatami competitors. In the “Dom sportova” hall in Zagreb, women competed in 5 categories but tomorrow we will find out who are the champions of the -56kg and -60kg categories.

In category LC under 55kg Tennessee Randall won a gold medal. “My speciality is offense and I knew if I stick to it I'll be good. She didn’t stop trough the whole match even when she was a point behind, so that was something I had to worry about. I usually do full contact but I decided to fight in this category instead. It is always good to have experience. I am impressed with the standard of this tournament and really looking forward to next year”, declared Randall after the fight.

Andrea Busa from the University of physical education in Hungary was first in a category under 65kg. Tereza Cvingerova from the Charles University of Czech Republic won in the last 20 seconds even though the Croatian competitor had the advantage during the first two rounds. Cvingerova took a fist place in the +65 category.

“It was a very tough fight and I am very happy that I won. I hope I will see her next year in another championship. It is very hard to win in the senior category so this is a big success for me today. I am very happy”, said Cvingerova.

The last gold medalist for today comes from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and her name is Marietta Galanomati. In category PF under 55kg, she won against LC -55kg champion Tennessee Randall. “It was okay. I wasn’t sure I’m going to win like this because I knew she is a really good fighter. But It was okay”, added Galanomati. Tennessee Randall won her second medal today, this time it was silver but she was pleased and she pointed out respect for her opponent. “She is the top class fighter, I did my best but It wasn’t good enough today. I will just come back stronger next time, look to improve and it was nice to have the experience to fight against her” said Randall.
