Karate Day2 – Man started with fights

The second day of the European University Karate Championship brought us a lot of new finalists, but also from repechage bronze medal winners. 

 

The day in "Bojan Stranić” hall started with men Kumite category under 75kg and under 84kg. After lots of exciting and passionate fights, the best competitors reached the finals. In a category under  75kg in the fight for a gold medal, we will see the match between Mensur Đozić from the University of Tuzla and Petar Zaborski from North Macedonia. Guys from the Balkan region didn’t reach the same result in under 84kg category. In that category, Greg Anderson from Great Britain will face Robin Rettenbacher, Austrian fighter from the University of Salzburg, in a gold medal fight.

 

Before the lunch break, there were also fights in under 67kg category. Home fighter, Stjepan Štimac from the University of Zagreb will be in the Saturday final after he won his match against Joaquim Mendes from the University of Porto. His opponent will be Francesco Danofrio from the University of Rome. 

 

Denis Gorenc, who was also a competitor in Kumite under 67kg category, said after his match: "It is very hot weather, but it is great when we are in the arena.  I expected a bit stronger opponents.” concluded fighter from the University of Ljubljana. 

 

After the break, two more Kumite competitions were started – Under 60kg and Over 84kg. The University of Zagreb continued with great results, and their fighter Karlo Raguž reached a new final in over 84kg category. Turkey and Greece will face each other in an under 60kg final, after the victories of Faut Demirel and Xenos Christos Stefanos. 

 

Tomorrow is a big day for all karatekas – THE LAST DAY OF COMPETITON! We will see who will be the best and who will earn a gold medal!
